About Us
Founded by Brian Phillips in 1999, the Firm has maintained a tight focus on its core areas: White Collar (civil and criminal), Tax Controversy (state and federal), Asset Forfeiture, and Professional License. The Firm focuses on these areas as the ongoing increase in governmental regulation of business and individual lives leads to the conclusion that these areas are not only intertwined, but will continue to grow even more so over time.
Experience has taught us that these issues, although described in different terms and reaching a range of situations are, most often, so intertwined as to be indistinguishable. For example, many people face professional licensure issues that stem from litigation (criminal and civil) and the hazards it creates. There are tax consequences to nearly every aspect of defending even baseless claims of mis- or malfeasance, from the simplest employment matter to complex commercial litigation. On the other side of the coin, the resolution of tax controversy matters often has significant impact on non-tax issues, other tax periods, and related taxpayers. We focus on addressing all of the issues so that solving one problem does not create another.
